Goverment And Classified.

When people say that the government can not keep things secret I point to what this Navy Seal will be going through.
If you get out you are still held to the microscope by the government.
So it will be interesting to see what happens to this man.
If nothing happens maybe more people will speak up about stuff?

I agree. I'm afraid for him and that they will try to make and example of him... not good.

I hate to admit that I'm becoming more and more afraid of my government, but leadership of last 20 years or so, has become more and more aggressive in the silencing of dissent. It's a shame. I'm truly considering moving my family to Australia, dependent on the outcome of this election.

We are not the honorable country that we used to be. I fear what my children, and God willing, my future grandchildren, will have to suffer through.

This is not the country my parents left us. My Dad was part of the Greatest Generation! He fought in the South Pacific in WWII. There aren't too many of them left.

Things are not always what they appear to be. Dis-information is leaked in all kinds of ways.

I purchased this book to help support the author, and I'm giving it to my military son. I actually told my military son that I had purchased it for him, and he was happy to hear about it because he wants to read it. So it's in the mail to wherever he is at this moment. He gave his address to hubby, and now I'm thinking that he does not want me to know where he is stationed. He was training with the Marines that got deployed to rescue the Embassy workers and any Americans in danger over there, but I'm thinking that he is still in warfare school at a Navel Base in California, and not flying off to combat.. (I Hope!)

I did not know that he did something possibly illegal. Yikes, where did you discover this issue? My son would never approve of someone breaking the law plus possibly endangering soldiers on future deployments. Where is that info so I can look at it also.

Is this guy still in the Military? If so or if he has just recently got out, he can fall under UCMJ instead of the Civilian justice system. In that case he would be tried for disclosing Classified information. If he seeks a jury trial, they would all have classified or higher security clearances. But he screwed him self far worse than UCMJ can screw him. He now has to worry about becoming an Alqueda Mark.

This goes to my point that the goverment does and can force people to Hold silent for risk of their Benefits and their familys livelyhood.
This is why people don't come forward with more information on things like UFOs and Bigfoot and other things their lives can be ruined by the goverment.

If the Seal actually did reveal any classified information that could affect current or future missions, he will be held accountable, of that I’m sure. The question is how the government will interpret quality and staleness of the information released. If little to no affect on current or future missions, then probably just a pain in his back side for a few months. If more than that he could be facing a court martial.

Well, there is a difference. For starters you no longer have the same rights a civilian has once you are in the military. Under UCMJ you do not really have the right to remain silent for instance. Nor do you have freedom of speech. Where a civilian can openly bad-mouth the President, we could get prosecuted for it. Clinton was President while I was in, and though the military had little love for him, we were "warned" if we were caught bad mouthing him.

But when it comes to Security Clearances, it applies to civilians as well as military. after your background check, you must take an oath to not reveal anything your clearance gives you access to, even if they have the same clearance that you do. It falls under need to know, meaning that unless the information you have is authorized to be given to a person with the same clearance, you are not permitted to discuss it. You normally know who these people are because they are working along side you.

That is why I consider HIGHLY unlikely that what he revealed was nothing more then dis-information. Think of the thousands and thousands of military personal that have stories to tell, secrets to reveal etc.... And this gentleman not only reveals it but has it published. I am not buying it one bit!

That is an excellent point Dingo, and hopefully you are correct. I would hate to see this man's life destroyed.
