Squatching in the Adirondacks

Post  MylesLI on Sun Sep 16, 2012 10:13 am

As many of you know I am going into the ADK's in early November "to just poke around". Withe all of the activity around Whitehall..has anyone looked West..closer to the Eastern shore of Lake George? Low land..plenty of water and herds of deer and occasional Moose.

I also saw a 4 wheel drive only road that would be awesome for getting deep into the woods..

Any insights would be soo appreciated!!!

Google map quest?

Post  Sweetsusiq on Sun Sep 16, 2012 12:56 pm

There is a place on-line where you can actually see pictures and the lay of the land where you are going.I have seen some of the images provided by this (free still?) service. Doing this checking may help you decide where you want to do your hiking and researching. Please let me know if this idea should prove fruitful. Very Happy
Have fun, and stay safe.

It is hard to beat google earth if you have some type of reference point. I have used it more then a few times for private surveillance locations and just recently checked out the surrounds of the vacation cabin we will be using.

Dingo, I hope the area around your vacation cabin looks safe since you are taking your wife and babies there. I'm not worried about their safety as long as you are with them, I'm concerned about when you are not with them while you're out hunting with your older children. I so hope that all of you will have a wonderful and safe vacation. I love you to all..

Sweetsusiq- Thanks for your concerns. My wife is an emergency room nurse and more importantly a trained CCW holder. She and I go to the range frequently along with the older kids.
I assure you we will be fine. If any trouble arises of any kind I will make sure all is safe and we are moving to a more secure location. I believe that the chances of another encounter happening are slim and none, but we are prepared.

Re: Squatching in the Adirondacks

YEAR: 1990

SEASON: Spring

DATE: Spring

STATE: New York

COUNTY: Warren County

LOCATION DETAILS: Just south of the Tongue Mt.Lookout on Route 9N.

NEAREST TOWN: Sabbath Day Point

NEAREST ROAD: Route 9N

OBSERVED: My brother and I were canoeing on Lake George, in N.Y state at about sunset. We headed south for 10 minutes to an area known as Deer Leap. At lake side it is a boulder strewn area with cliffs rising 600 feet above the shoreline. As we were begining to come on to this area we saw something standing on shore. It was brownish in color and standing straight up with it's arms at it's side. It was about the size of a small man and very thin. Its body was facing south, looking down the shorline when it suddenly turned its head directly towards us and looked very intently. We whispered to each other and watched it while it watched us. We were 2 grown men paddling parallel to the shore and about 200 feet out but we could not summon up the courage to go in closer. This thing had a strange look, almost a crazed grin. Like a giant Lemur. The sun was set now as we continued to watch it in the shadows of the mountain. As it was standing next to an old, dead pine tree, it turned and climbed, sloth-like up the tree about 20 feet to the first and only large limb and onto the crook of a branch. We paddled back around and as we approached it again cocked its head directly at us, after a minute or so it turned its face downward into its body and became as if it were a part of the tree. Just a lump on the crook of the branch. You would not know it was there unless you saw it move. I have been in this area all my life and have never seen anything like this and have not seen it since.
In my searchings I have found reference to a creature found in the woods of New Hampshire. Back in the 30's they called it the "Wood devil or Stick Men". The one thing incommon is they are able to blend into trees to avoid being seen.

ALSO NOTICED: It did not make any sounds.

OTHER WITNESSES: 2 witnesses, 30 and 35 years old . Canoeing. Swimming.

OTHER STORIES: I have not heard of another story like this one but I did submit a "bigfoot sound" report that I heard near this location back in 92 and 93.
Also there is mentioned way back in the 1700's, in a report by Roger and his Rangers that "as they were traveling in Vermont from an attack on a French Fort in Canada, they were followed by a thing they called Old Slippery Skin ( a skinny thing) which threw rocks and branches down on them from the ridges above the valley floor they were traveling on. It did't make much of an impression on them , it seemed to be just a pest.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: sunset

ENVIRONMENT: Boulders, lakeside. towering cliffs near by deep water and pine trees.

Warren County, New York State
Lake George - Buck Mountain region Adirondacks

Around July 9th, 2000 — My wife and I were chased out of the woods by what I am sure was a Bigfoot in the Lake George/Buck Mountain region of the Adirondacks, New York in Warren County. The creature observed us from about 100 feet away and broke large branches and made a large roaring/screaming like sound at least 7 times, maybe more that could only come from a very large mammal. I have been in the woods with very large bears and have even taken away food bags from bears, but this was no bear or Coy-dog, it was much larger.

We never did see it, but we could hear it following us out through the trail in the woods and I have NEVER been so scared in all my life. It kept coming closer — would stop and "roar", then approach us closer. We were nearly frozen in fear, but managed to collect our things from where we had been resting and nearly ran out of the woods. My wife is a very big skeptic of Bigfoot... until this point. The whole time we walked out of the woods, she kept on commenting that it was following us. We could feel it watching us and could hear it through the woods, a few times I saw something moving through the woods parallel with us but tried not to look as we both picked up large sticks in case in attacked us. There was no one parked at the trail head when we came out and I suspect it had followed out 2 other hikers that had hiked in earlier ahead of us and just happened to come across us.

The sounds we heard that day have really bothered me since then. I am literally scared to death of going into the woods alone now, even though I have been hiking for over 20 years. I can't explain the terror I felt from hearing this thing. I feel like I have to go back to the area and check it out, but my wife will never go back into the woods after this incident, that's how frightening these sounds were.

I was wondering if you know of anyone in the Upstate NY area that researches Bigfoot that would go up into the trail with me to just look around and see if we can maybe find tracks of some sort or look for signs of the creature. Thanks JW, witness identity withheld by request.
