Camera's and Video Empty Camera's and Video

Post  CMcMillan Wed Sep 26, 2012 12:59 pm

So I have wondered.
Today we have technology to set up spy camera's almost anywhere.
These things also have cellular capability if we need them or even wifi hotspot or even satellite like connections.

If we know an area seems to be a area for bigfoot activity.
Why aren't we littering the area with these small and they are not to expensive video camera's.
I don't get why we are not placing them higher in the tree's looking down... burying them except the lens in the ground looking up.
And then others at eye level.
Spacing them out and about. Then leaving them for a week go back clear the flash drive and then move them around.
I think spacing them about and around would give us a better chance to catch them. even if it was an areal birds eye view it would be cool.

I always thought we set up a triangle parameter where it is pretty obvious whats going on then, we go out beyond the triangle parameter and place more camera's in

what about in a triangle Parameter you have 4 cameras for each point. place the camera's in like an "X" so we get a better field of view? the foot would have less chance to hide and sneak up on the camera's

Cameras and video cameras of today are so small and compact that the can be hidden just about anywhere unnoticed. I have seen video cameras put into just about anything to disguise them. The even make some that look like rocks for more permanent
applications.

I personally where a battery voice operated one while working. The lens of the video camera looks like a button on my shirt. It shoots awesome video and audio that has helped me more then a few times in a he said , she said situations.

Yea basically i think we need to bait them with a camera trap inside another camera trap area.
We setting these camera's up thinking its a Deer. Not a Smart and Thinking creature.
We humans are deceptive and sneaky I am sure we can create a situation to get a better picture of the creature from several views.
We need to setup with the idea of fooling someone who is smart.

If perv guys can hide camera's in the bathrooms we can do this in the woods.

My theory (and this is only a theory) is that Bigfoot may have a keener sense of smell than your average human, and avoids places that have a concentrated scent, i.e. items purposely put in an area by humans for a short time. And the second part to this is that they may have a more acute sense of hearing, and may hear the electronics. But in both cases just plain avoid the area.

I think a better solutionis to put these camera traps on pre-existing man made structures, that has a reputation of being visited, then place hundreds of the little cameras there, and wait, for more than a month and see what you get. elephant

Lets not forget all the reports of bigfoots coming near tents.
Instead of pointing camera's out into the woods. Point them facing your tents

Green, I've always thought that also. The idea of the cams in one area makes sense. I just think we are underestimating them. They are smart, way smarter than we expect them to be. I mean a trail cam should work on them, there should be all kinds of pics, right? Why isn't there? A BF doesn't know what a photo is so how does it know to avoid the box on the tree? I feel like they smell it. Not just trail cams but anything plastic we leave in the woods. Plastic is the problem. Ever take something new out of the box and you smell that plastic odor? They're sense of smell has to be that of a dog or better. I have no doubt that all the nasty chemicals that are used to make plastic could stink up an area of woods. And they know to just avoid it. I also think they are sensitive to electronics but I don't know to what extent. Or I could be completely wrong

Camera's and Video Empty I agree Brandon....

That are aware of them bottom line...for whatever reason....they are aware of cameras. It's uncanny really, because there have been some sophisticated efforts at capturing them on concealed camera to no avail. In talking to those in the field, I've heard of just about every conceivable idea you could imagine, micro cams, cams mounted high, cams plastered into real rocks, tent cams, infrared, motion sensing, fast shutter, name it---it's been tried before. Now we could be dealing with a combination of few of those mounting cams applying a sophisticated approach, with a small target population of animals. What's been noticed is when cams are saturating an area, they just avoid the area altogether. I don't know senses they are employing to detect cameras and avoid them, but it either that, or the placement has been downright unlucky.

The most interesting trail cam image IMO, is this one:

Millions of cameras throughout the US, I bet I am not the only one that thought that if this creature existed then by now Bigfoot would be captured at least once!

That is assuming that Bigfoot would be around these millions of cameras. We know there are vast stretches of North America that rarely are traveled. There are also vast underground areas yet to be explored or discovered.

My post from another thread...

To add a little perspective...

Oregon has 28.8 million acres of forested land.
That is 45,000 square miles.
Or a square 212 miles by 212 miles.
It would take a car 3.5 hours to drive across at 60 mph.
It would take a person 14 days to walk from one side to the other.

...and that person walking would have only seen 0.05% of the forest in those two weeks.

That is 20 two week trips (40 weeks) in the forest to see 1% of the forest of Oregon alone.
That is 77 YEARS to walk and see the forest!
Let's face it...there are not a million people making such treks across the vast areas of forest in North America.

Camera's and Video Empty ADKs - my perspective

Post  MylesLI Sun Sep 30, 2012 12:18 pm

6.5 million acres

With relatively recent interest (30 years) adding more investigators, we should expect more and better documentation

Llots of people in concentrated lakes and hiking areas in the summer...very, very few in the winter. Even in Lake George the most concentrated collection of humans in the Park...vast areas exist that have little human incursions...in winter these areas are mainly free of human activity..too difficult for hunting .. hiking relegated North to High Peaks area

Many sightings over the last 100 years. ecosystem supports large herds of deer, bear even Moose in the last 15 years.. a thriving forest with minmal intrusions

Vocalizations are adding new insights to "whats out there" but no extensive network of trail cameras exist or is practical... capturing audio should always be a goal of every expedition because it effectively covers wider and more inaccessible areas especially at night

ROAD TRIP!

Tension breaker, had to be done.

Seriously, I do think if some remote cameras were put in an established out building that was known to be frequented, and do something like a web cam. A person might just be able to finally capture one on film that was good or if not better than the Patterson film. Of course with some semblance of checks and balances to deter a hoax.

Most people don't realize the vastness of some areas, and how thick and dense and remote some areas are.its just not easy to get to, to penetrate some mt forest areas, are almost impossible..theres plenty of room for them to roam and not be seen..
