Guidelines for Trollish behavior Empty Guidelines for Trollish behavior

1-While civil debating and discussion is fine, rudeness, profanity (or attempts to bypass profanity filters), sexual innuendos, racist or personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts will not be tolerated. Your comments will be edited or deleted to fulfill these these expectations. Our decision is final in these matters. (*definitions of baiting and goading are below)

2- Do NOT tell other posters they wrong, idiots, stupid or any other descriptive term that negates their contribution. Tolerance is the key. We all have our opinions whether anyone else can understand it or not. We do not want posters to be scared of posting for fear of being ridiculed! Comments will be edited to fulfill these expectations.

3- Personal attacks, rudeness, flaming, baiting, goading, defamatory comments or insults to others, or arguments will not be tolerated. Challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully. (*definitions of baiting and goading are below)

If you have a problem with a post pm a moderator.

4- Hijacking Thread - Do not hijack people's thread/topic. This includes (but not limited to) purposely changing the subject, engaging on topic as a tool for disruption later, drowning commentary with multiple posts, controversial commentary meant to inflame membership (dog whistling a.k.a. building fires), shifting focus to your posting behavior and off topic. Keep the thread on topic.

Very Happy Keep an open mind. Remember Bigfoot Analysis is NOT an exact Science!

Guidelines for Trollish behavior Empty Clarification of baiting and goading

Post  Blondie1 Tue Oct 16, 2012 1:14 am

*Definition of baiting and goading

Goading others into making uncivil comments is a common tactic. Don't take the bait.
They may mix in inaccurate information or misquote you to compel you to respond. They may manipulate the civility policy as a weapon.

In content disputes, a common baiting strategy involves badgering the opposition—while carefully remaining superficially civil—until someone lashes out. (sound familiar?) They they complain that they don't understand what they did/said was wrong.

Sometimes these are after one particular individual and sometimes they're just after anyone who will take the bait.

Don't take the bait. You are under no obligation to respond to goading. Avoid the temptation to get in the last word.

It is polite to reply to the first inquiry or two, but you are free to end the discussion at any point in which you feel further exchanges serve no useful purpose.

Don't tell the provocateur that they aren't welcome, as this can be used against you. Let them have the last word. Let them jump and shout. They may get louder and louder, but the silent treatment always works in the end. Don't take the bait. Just swim away.

Goad definition Merriman Webster dictionary
