What do you think of Bigfoot movies?!
What does everyone think of bigfoot movies? I know there have been a bunch shown on sci-fi and in my opinion they aren't that great.
I am a filmmaker and currently in the process of making a film about bigfoot hunters and how it could get out of hand. I am trying to make it as authentic as possible but at the same time entertaining. It is a fiction thriller so there are a few elements that might not be 100% accurate.
Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks

Good luck on that lol.. It's been done over and over and over again. Modern Bigfoot movies piss me off. Though I heard that Letters from the Bigman had the most realistic looking sasquatch.
This is the sad part.. The damned 1970's movies were actually more realistic than the modern stuff. Those creatures that basically looked like "Cousin It" from the Adam's Family on steroids had more horror appeal to them than this modern crap that tries to show a fanged-ape with a mean face and that makes it look stupid, not scarey. (And all the more fake.)
Bigfoot's fear factor is that it is unknown. A Massive silhouette standing in the shadows with glowing red eyes watching you. The eerie screams coming from the darkness.
I know nothing of film making, only that the old 1970's flicks had that atmosphere despite bad acting and crappy lighting and this world of CGI does not. Maybe it was the bad lighting that went in it's favor? But it's sad when the skits of the supposed stories from The Legend of Boggy-Creek send a chill up my spine to this day, when the "Top" Modern Bigfoot movies of this day do not.

Re: What do you think of Bigfoot movies?!
I watched the two most "Bigfoot-y" Syfy movies: that one with Alice Cooper in it, and Rage Of The Yeti. The former was utterly ridiculous, with bigfoot standing around what I'd estimate at 30 feet tall, going around stomping on RVs and biting people in half. Rage Of The Yeti was somewhat less stupid, with some neat creature design for the yetis (which, amusingly, are never referred to in the movie as yetis, only Yeren).

I agree that the 1970s films were the best. They didn't show much of the creature probably because the suits looked rubbish. Unfortunately today, the suits still look rubbish but they like to show them loads within the first 5 minutes! And the computer imagery is even worse!
I have edited a teaser trailer for 'The Shadow of Bigfoot' which you should check out, it is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oy-065p8LM0
It is more in tone with the 70s style movies.
Let me know what you think.

How near completion is it?... In being honest, the trailer looks a bit cheesy. Believe me, I know how it feels to have your passion critiqued. I wrote a chain of novels and the one publisher I went to tried to tell me it would not grab any ones attention. That I would only find a select audience even though everyone who read my manuscripts were hooked. My Books revolved around Nephilim which at that time, no one knew what a Nephilim was. Now The damned things are all over the place. And it was not just one book, I had a chain of sequels before I tried to get the first one published. (My screen name was the name of one of my leading characters.. "Tzieth").
So believe me when I say that I have no will nor intention to put down your work. The problems with what I see with your trailer are as follows.
#1 The choreography- Like I said, I know nothing of film but I was heavy into theater-arts when I was in high school. Your actors are moving and fighting as if they were on stage.(A lot of modern bigfoot movies are like this.) That works good on stage, but looks really unnatural on screen. Speaking as a viewer. (Maybe you could get Lance Henrickson? He seems to be in about all the newer Bigfoot movies lol)
#2 That scream! Nothing "expert" here. But as a viewer these off the wall vocals are a pet peeve. Your Bigfoot scream sounded more like a werewolf. Well a man cupping his hands over his mouth trying to sound like a werewolf to be exact. Why not use an actual alleged vocal? These vary depending on the region. (I think there is more than one species) But all of them have a creepiness to them.
#3 Is all this taking place during the daylight hours? Sasquatch are nocturnal. Let me explain this a different way. The vast majority of your audience will be people with an interest in Sasquatch. They may or may not believe, but most will know all the reported habits and behavior. Wood-knocking, Rock throwing, camp raiding, Whoops, Howls, Growls, Guttural Screams, Shrieking Screams, Samurai-Chatter.. and the fact that they are Nocturnal with daylight sightings being extremely rare. Even in the case of "Patty".. She had a valid excuse for walking around in broad day-light. There was a recent flood and she was moving to higher ground at the time. If your movie is filled with things that are contrary to what Sasquatch Enthusiasts believe or perceive, then you will lose your biggest audience. Your second biggest audience will be Horror Movie Buffs. Throw in some body-parts, blood, bare breasts and a butt-shot here and there and they will be happy. But Bigfoot will be all the more unreal to those guys and another Skeptic Troll in born on our beloved blog. lol I have never seen "Letters from the Bigman" But I want to. One of the reasons people love it is because the behavior of the creature is accurate to reports.
So far the best modernish Sasquatch movie I seen so far, had Lance Henrickson in it. (Big shock there lol) I can't remember the name of it, but he was some sort of Billionaire and his plane goes down in the Cascades and his crew are stalked by a Sasquatch. Though the creature looked like a musclebound hairy bald guy, the behavior was dead on.. It had the rock throwing and wood-knocking etc... The story line was great and I soon did not care how ridiculous the creature looked or the fact that the only one who could act was Lance himself lol. (Didn't matter they all died except for him anyway lol)
If your actors are not the greatest and your budget is non-existent, all you have to do is appeal to the audience that is most likely to give your movie a shot (Squatchers) and none of the other stuff will matter much.
Good luck and i hope you succeed

Re: What do you think of Bigfoot movies?!
You have a lot of good points. Thanks for that. I am a big sasquatch fan and would have liked to make this movie spot on with the details. Unfortunately as the budget is limited we have set the film in daylight. I would have liked to shoot at night but it throws up whole bunch of problems.
The trailer is just a teaser that doesn't really give away any story elements, the howl was a quick filler and not the what actually appears in the movie. We should have a new trailer ready in the next few weeks.

Legend of Boggy Creek
Still scares the crap out of me.
My parents home we lived by a very wooded swampy area in CT i would go hiking during the day to the old Indian caves.
my room was down stairs and we had a door to the back yard my room and the living room had a huge set of windows to the back yard woods.
So when i watched shows like Boggy creek would freak me out.

Has anyone seen the free-to-view youtube movie Suburban Sasquatch? It's a 100 minute feature-length movie which looks like it was made on a budget of about $500 and it's the worst thing ever. The homemade Squatch suit is truly hilariously craptastic.

Ahahahaha, oh my god. That is utterly amazing. The noises it made just about killed me. All I could think of (for some reason) was the "samsquanch" from Trailer Park Boys.
