This Professor is they typical person who really makes judgments with out knowing the facts.
Plenty of other women are into Bigfoot.

Lets also remember in the male dominated world at the time who researched chimps? Who researched Mountain gorillas?

Sure there are plenty of women involved but the point made is that it is predominantly a male pastime which is true.

Lots of men researched chimps and gorillas, the women you are referring to (Jane Goodall-Chimps, Dian Fossey-Mountain gorillas, and Birute' Galdukis- Orangutans, we all sent into the field by Louis Leakey to study primates in their natural
environment. He set up an entire Research Center to acquire their funding. That's why they could afford to stay in the field so long. But they were not the only people doing work on the apes. They were just the most famous ones. (and the fact that The National Geographic Society was one of their biggest funders didn't hurt their publicity)
