Food for thought Empty Food for thought

Edit to add: I did not write this comment.
Lifted from the Comments under the "MABRC Boss" story today... unfortunately it was the 200th comment and nobody could reply (for what that might have been worth "out there"). I agree that the perceived "value" of a bigfoot is the root cause of every problem associated with this research, but don't think that will change.

To those who want "BIGFOOT PROVEN TO BE REAL!"

Ever thought about why you want Bigfoot to be proven scientifically? Do you want to protect it as an endangered species? Provide it with civil rights if human? To help the species in some way? To satisfy your own curiosity?

Doubt it, more than likely you just want to be proven RIGHT! You want show all the non-believers out there that you were right and they were wrong. You want to brag to all your friends that you always knew it was real. You want to shove it in the face of everyone that ever made fun of you in the past. You want to tell the world to kiss your ASS!

In other words, SELFISHNESS, EGO, and PRIDE. It's all about you, and what scientific proof of Bigfoot can do for YOU.

If you really care about the subject, then I ask you to swallow your pride for a minute. Consider what would happen to the species once it is scientifically proven to the world.

They have done very well for a long time without scientific verification. Humans have a long history of destroying everything they either fear or don't understand. For example, Native Americans, wolves, grizzlies, and so on.

Once Bigfoot goes from myth to reality, then the fate of the creature you care about becomes doomed. Every mainstream or "wanna-be" scientist will begin beating the bush in order to observe, photograph, video, or document this newly discovered species. Will they be doing this because they care about the species welfare? Of course not, 99% of them thought it was a mythical monster the day before. Now they are suddenly a believer, and become a Bigfoot researcher overnight in order to make a name for themselves. Selfish? Of course! Best interest of Bigfoot? Hell no!

Many will seek to kill one in order to add the ultimate trophy to their wall. Every greedy and eccentric millionaire in the world will want one at any cost. Poachers will flock to the woods, and kill any Bigfoot on sight to sell to the highest bidder. Think any new laws or regulations passed to protect this newly discovered species? No way, a dead Bigfoot would make them an instant millionaire and on easy street for life. That tends to make people break the law if you didn't already know it.

Like the great gold rush of the past, people will swarm to prime Bigfoot habitat for the adventure, curiosity, or the money. The mostly peaceful Bigfoot will feel threatened and either retreat deeper into the wilderness, or go on the defensive and become aggressive. When threatened with death, the once peaceful Bigfoot will "fight fire with fire." Native Americans were peaceful until they were threatened recall?

Is it worth this just to be able to say "I told you so" to all those who have made fun of you in the past. To win that bet you had with a friend and get a free beer? To walk into a room and boast that you "knew it all along?" Are you really that selfish and care about the species so little?

If you haven't been blessed with an encounter of your own yet, then you can kiss that possibility goodbye forever once Bigfoot goes from myth to reality. They are rare and elusive now with just us few "crackpots" looking for it. Once the entire world starts looking for it, then it will make encountering one now seem as easy as spotting a squirrel.

Good points. But a lot of wrong ones in there as well... People who know (Or think they know) Sasquatch behavior and patterns are already out trying to kill one. The world does not have to believe in Bigfoot, He is a hot trend right now so the agnostics of the world are leaning towards belief right now. RIGHT NOW. Bigfoot is in more danger than he would be if he was confirmed.

If they are as Ketchum says they are "Human", then yeah, big millionare can have his trophy at the risk of getting sentenced to death. That is the other popular trend right now. lol Where clebs used to get away with murder, now they are especially made examples of.. Lindsey Lohan, O.J. Simpson, Wesly Snipes, and they went after Robert Blake tooth and nail.

If EVER there was a time for Sasquatch to come out of the closet, it is now. I have a feeling they are already being killed and studied by our Governments. It's that hidden negative to the photo.. If Bigfoot does exist, then the U.S. and Canadian Governments MUST know about it. Think about the Toys they have... Satellites that can see trough rooftops, or zoom into a snail on the ground. That other thing they said did not exist with the big signs out front that plainly said it existed.. Area 51. Remember when Geraldo did that investigative Documentary on it back in the early 90's? He barely stepped foot on the property, and the feds were there like hornets due to the motion sensors. It's like a hidden code.. When the U.S. Government confirms something is not real, it usually is.. Note:They do not Confirm UFO's are not real, nor do they "Confirm" that there is no possibility that E.T.'s are out there.. They just "Confirm" that we have never been visited by E.T.'s But yet the "Confirm" there is no Sasquatch.

That brings me to one of my own motives on why I want it confirmed.. Aside from catching the Government in yet another lie, it goes back to E.T.'s and that loneliness we all seem to have but do not realize it until we think about it or watch Star-Trek or something... It's that confirmation that "We are not alone". That there is still magic in the world and all frontiers have not been discovered. It's not greed, it is what has been hardwired into us... It's why we are sending probes to Mars, why we are exploring alternative energy, why we are smashing atoms in superconductors... We thrive on Discovery.. We HAVE to know what makes everything tick and what is around the corner.

Yes the guys who are out doing it want the fame and wealth and power... But would they get it if the rest of us did not want to know? If no body cared, then nobody would fund them and whatever they found would be insignificant.

The "They have survived this long without us." argument is a nice one. But it is also an underestimation of just how vile we Humans are. When we want something, we take it. What was once protected land to never be developed, somehow still gets developed. Eventually, they will have no place to hide... But if confirmed, that could actually change that.

Meh. I don't buy into this "we shouldn't find them for their own protection" nonsense. There's plenty of species we've discovered that haven't gone extinct, and since humans have been all over North America for several hundred years, I'd say anything that's going to affect the bigfoot population would've already.

As for governments knowing about them? Possible, but not likely. The National Reconnaissance Office probably aren't in the habit of pointing their hugely expensive spy satellites at random areas of the Pacific Northwest looking for sasquatch, not to mention it'd be quite difficult to even see one on their most advanced (publicly, at least) birds. You've got to get pretty close to the ground to see man-sized targets. Civilian weather and mapping satellites don't have anywhere near the surface resolution to see animals.

I dont buy that at all. Why am I curious? Because of the PGF I saw when I was a kid. I want BF to be real so we can start studying them. I have NO interest in saying nen nen nen nen nen na to the disbelievers. I have no desire to show them up at all. All I care about is based upon the pure scientific learning aspect of it all. Thats it. How do we co-exist with such a large creature right in our back yards some times. I have no interest at all in exploitation of the Squatch at all, in fact I fear it. But thats it. I want to know what they eat, how they live, what kind of family life do they have, are they matched couples are like deer where one buck has a harem, etc etc etc.

It would not to be looking for sasquatch, it would be looking for drug-runners or escaped convicts or in our case, Terrorists coming into the U.S. from Canada. (That was the scare after 9-11. The Pacific Northwest would definitely be a Satellite target for both DHS and the Military. Aside from the Islamic terrorist scare 10 years ago, Washington would be a military target for North Korea(We have an Army Post, Airforce Base and Navel Base all within close proximity to one another) just as the entire West Coast was for Japan during WWII. I am not saying the Government would know they exist because they were intentionally looking for them, but like most Sasquatch sightings, they were incidental (At first). Popular Tech has always been like 10-20 years behind actual tech. Sometimes it is mind-boggling but an example of the difference is in 1957, most of the worlds military were still using prop planes with the exception of a few jets that were crude rip-offs of the Nazi ME-262. However in 1954 serious blue-prints were being drawn up for a plane that was actually first designed in the Middle of WWII and kept top secret all through the 60's and 70's.. Oxcart. which was part of the excuse for area-51 after the freedom of information act... Oxcart was the predecessor to the SR-71 (Smaller version) So in a time when The P-51 and Corsair still ruled the skies and Fighter-Jets were brand new, Super-sonic planes that could outrun missiles were already being created for the CIA. The friggen CIA was getting more advanced Tech than our own Military.

So compare the tech we know we have now and imagine what it would be like 20 years from now, and the CIA most likely has that now... So it Sasquatch exists, they must know. I can't see how they wouldn't. Think about the old Cold-War era Spy Satilight photo's of the 60's and 70's That crap was black and white, but still sharper than google earth lol.
